    I was working in a music store when it came out, it instantly became my favorite. I had just bought an Emax II... I could make my own "rompler" sounds...but the JD-800 was so sweet sounding. The sliders... oh yes.... but I went crazy and wanted the best analog synth ever made. I was 20 years old, my boss convinced me to get a used Oberheim Xpander. I still have it. And I picked up a JD-800 for $600 a few years later :)

    The digital LFO... Shit then I'm totally fucked with my Oberheim Xpander...Hahahahahha!!!!!!! By the way, the Jupiter 6 has digital LFOs and envelopes as well. If you mean the LFO re-triggers with every keypress and the move from the CEM3340 and the IR3109 to the chips used on the JX 8P and cousins, Yes, you can hear the difference. It sounds ... not as good. But that has nothing to do with digital LFOs.

    I have a TB-303, RE-303, TT-303, TD-3 and the MO and none sound like the tb-303. Close, but the organic warm squelchiness can’t be matched…. The TB sounds more musical too…. The clones do a good job though.

    What are you talking about? Just get a dx7 for the best electric piano, then add the rest of what you want. Add Rack mount synths and sampled piano stuff. Nothing beats the dx7 electric piano sounds and you can have Rhodes and Wurlitzers that sound much better then Roland or a a red Nord. Got my dx7 25 years ago used for $200 US. Good luck finding it today at that price. Trust me live the dx7 sounds the best because I’ve tried the others and they sometimes come a close 2nd best or worst.

    Picked up a MX49 for playing keys with a cover band. I'm planning on it to be my top board, and have a larger keyboard on bottom for more bread-and-butter sounds. But with a bit of hassle I can use the 49 as the only keyboard on a gig. I might have to use the octave button to play a piano solo in the right range and put it back for comping, and it takes some planning to get the splits right for pads and leads on one performance option. But it's doable. What I do not like is there's no way to one-key call up a performance. You have to hit a button, arrow or scroll, and hit a button again. Kind of a pain in the ass on a gig where a tune might just get called out.

    All sounds a pretty using dual mode , and are wide open , this might be great for ambient , pads ect ... but it takes off all the density and presence we have in a more centered / mono sound .... struggling to find a review where people actually sound design stuff and show the synth capacities .... Great video anyway for its purpose ...

    Kind of a dumb take. It's boutique. It's for fans of the original. It's a small audience. I can't imagine that Korg intended this to be a big seller to a younger audience. As someone who has an original 700, the build is better than the original - better switches, sliders, real wood sides and better keyboard BY FAR. Back in the 70s, the average musician could not afford a Moog. This was the first, generally available and affordable synth. It was actually a much better choice than a Minimoog because, before digital presets, you could quickly repatch for a different song with a few flips of the switches. I remember playing a Cars song with a classic synth lead sound and then repatching for a French horn for a Christopher Cross song in about 2 seconds. People who are seeing the 700FS for the first time don't realize that it was designed to to get fast access to a wide variety of classic synth voicings with a few flips.

    Recently purchased myself a D-50 in great shape. It was love at first sight. The sound is quite unique compared to any other synthesizer I've heard or played. (Both vintage and new.) I find myself playing it some three times a week now. There are hundreds of patch banks (sys ex) available online to try out different sounds. And the midi dump procedure very very easy, using Sys Ex Librarian application on my Mac. So I can change patch banks at any moment, to fit the song I'm working on. But foremost I've come to know the synth now as a very inspirational musical instrument. the overall feel and sound of the machine, invite me to search for new chord progressions, new ideas. Going in to edit mode to alter or create sounds feels familiar. The lay out of screen and buttons, make navigating quite easy for a digital synth. It's excellent instrument and still relevant today, especially compared to it's main rivals back in the day. The Yamaha DX7 and the Korg M1. The Yamaha was a bit of a revolution, but the FM synthesis very hard to program. The M1 sounds beautiful, but it's more a rompler than a synthesizer. Sound tweaking is limited and no filters. So, if given the choice, I'd choose the D-50.

    • @granturismo5742
      @granturismo5742 4 дні тому

      D-50 has some nice and interesting sound for sure, but it cannot filter the PCM waveform. On the other hand, filter on M1 can make a Brass waveform sounds from hissing bright to Sine-like mellow, and from there, with so many envelope parameters, you can make a string pad or sweeping FX out of it.

    Your Intro and Specs - I absolutely agree. The sound design possibilities are huge and the synth sounds just superb. After the updates even more versatile than my Moog Sub37 which has more punch. But if I would have to choose, the BS2 is one of the synths I would never sell.

    If I recall correctly it was always Univox. Korg had nothing to do with it until maybe 85-87 when they bought it. I remember messing around with one in a music store in the '70s and it clearly read Univox. They also had some effects boxes that were good - along with Musictronics (Mutron), Maestro etc.. I was always an ARP man not Moog or anything else.. This particular synthesizer was put on the map by Gino Vannelli (Joe) - He was able to get more out of it than anybody else that I heard.

    In your demo i would say the m has more body it sounds more natural. the modwave is a bit thinner if it goes bold it brings not the fundament of the m. but in the mid/hi area it sounds very nice and ambient ready. the m goes from where the mw2xt ended i would say. Both are very usable for their strengths.
